South Africa – South African President Cyril Ramaphosa paid a courtesy call on Her Majesty the Queen and the UK Prime Minister Theresa May during his first visit in British as a President. Ramaphosa was in London for the Commonwealth Heads of State meeting which took place on 19-20 April 2018.
The Head of States meeting focused largely on the economy and how countries can stretch and strengthen their partnerships to boost investments. However, Cyril Ramaphosa’s trip was cut short when he was forced to return back home and hold an urgent meeting addressing ANC leaders over the protests that took place in Mahikeng in the North West which was centred on dissatisfaction over premier Supra Mahumapelo’s leadership. The meeting was convened by structures of the ANC, the Leagues, Alliance and the ANC Caucus where he requested the protests to express their grievances in a peaceful manner and engagement. He further requested law enforcement agencies to exercise maximum restraint in their duties to return calm and normality to the province.
The protest: the ANC is currently planning to outcast North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo in a similar as former South Africa President Jacob Zuma. A presidential team is set to hold a meeting with Mahumapelo and part of the discussions in the meeting will include requesting Mahumapelo to voluntarily resign for the benefit and interest of the North West people.
