SADC Ministers have resolved to have coordinating committees in place in their countries in response to the recent outbreak of listeriosis.  The SADC Ministers came up with 8 resolutions that need to be implemented as soon as possible to contain listeriosis. These resolutions amongst others include cross-border collaboration among member states, harmonizing, detecting and responding to the crisis, strengthening of SADC secretariat and developing of policies by SADC countries to mention but a few. These resolutions were made during an extraordinary meeting with SADC Ministers that was called by the Minister of Health in South Africa to Dr Aron to discuss SA’s deadly listeriosis outbreak. This was revealed by the Minister of Health Swaziland. SDAC countries also emphasize the importance of guidelines of course of practice in processed foods.

In SA the outbreak has killed a total of 183 people since January 2017. Several neighbouring counties have suspended processed meats imports from South Africa.
