Zimbabwe: No Intention to Return Land Seized from Former Whites

Zimbabwean President Emmerson says the country has no intention of returning land ceased from former whites almost two decades ago. Emmerson said this when delivering his speech to Zanu PF party’s supporters in Zimbabwe. His statement comes to after white farmer Robert demanded his land back after being evicted in June by ex-President Robert Mugabe’s government. Zimbabwe embarked on a land reformed program in 2000 taking over to resettle blacks.
However, of late, Zimbabwe has reportedly set up a committee to spearhead the process of compensating white farmers whose farms were ceased during the country’s controversial reform program. News reports from news24 stated that president Emmerson appointed the permanent secretary of the land and agriculture ministry to chair the committee until October next year. Emmerson said the appointment of the committee is a signal that agricultural production will soon become attractive in Zimbabwe. This new development dollar bill claim made by evicted white farmers a few weeks ago who lodged claims since the assets during the land redistribution program. The compensation claim reportedly been tabled before president Emmerson stating that 690 hectares of land was forcibly taken from the white farmers including farming equipment, livestock and possessions.
