CHILDREN’S WRITING AWARDS

Samuel Writers, Inc. shines a spotlight on Swaziland’s young talent in drawing art, short story and poetry through its Children’s Awards. This competition is open to all kids in Swaziland aged 10 – 17 years. Enter our Children’s Writing Awards for your chance to win! Almost 50 winners will be chosen. The top winning entries of this writing contest will also be on display in the Samuel Writers, Inc.’s Children’s Writing Awards Collection.
Categories
The competition will have three categories:
Drawing and ART – if you think you can draw a story tell piece of art. This is your chance to win big. In this category, you can draw any piece of ART, can add words, and there is no page limit as long as it’s one story. All age groups are allowed to join this category.
Short story – if you think words better express your thoughts and imagination, pen it down and send it to us. Word limit varies with age. If you are 10 – 12 years, your word count maximum is 200 words. The 13 – 15 years will produce a maximum of 400 words, and the 16 – 17 years will produce a maximum of 600 words.
Poetry – all sorts of poems are acceptable – rhyming, non-rhyming, sonnets, haiku, and what not. The maximum number of lines is 32. All age groups are allowed to join this category.
Prizes
The prizes will be offered in the three writing categories and the three age groups (10 – 12 years, 13-15 years, & 16 – 17 years).
The First place winner in each category will receive E800 in cash
The Second place winner in each category will receive E500 cash
The Third place winner in each category will receive E300 in cash
The Fourth place winner in each category will receive E150 in cash
The Fifth place winner in each category will receive E75 in cash
The Sixth through Tenth place winners in each category will receive E50 in cash
All top winners will also receive:
- All other top winners will have their names listed in Samuel Writers magazine, on samuelwriters.comand in the Samuel Writers, Inc.’s Children’s Writing Awards Collection.
All Honorable Mentions receive:
- Their names listed in the Samuel Writers, Inc.’s Children’s Writing Awards Collection.
How to Enter
- All entries must be submitted online. Handwritten entries are allowed in this competition and can be mailed (see the Preparing Your Entry page)
- Your entry must be original, in English, unpublished and unproduced, not accepted by any other publisher or producer at the time of submission. Any piece posted online, anywhere other than a personal blog, is considered published.
- All contest entrants’ entry forms must be accompanied by a parent or guardian permission form or they’ll be disqualified.
- Since contact/category information is collected via: the online entry form; online entrants do not need to include this information on the file being uploaded. If you already have it appearing on the first page (Title page) – it is permissible to leave it, just not necessary.
- As judging is blind, do not include your name, address, phone number, email address or other identifying information in the upper left-hand corner of every page.
- BE SURE OF YOUR WORD/LINE COUNT! Entries below the word will be disqualified. Type the exact word count (counting every single word, except the title) at the top of the manuscript.
