Arsenal Beat Bayern 3-1 After Strong Second Half
Arsenal won 3-1 against Bayern Munich in a big Champions League game. The match was tight in the first half, but second-half substitutes Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli scored important goals to secure the victory. Arsenal have now won all five of their group matches.
Arsenal defeated Bayern Munich 3-1 in a top Champions League match on Wednesday. The game started tight, but Arsenal were excellent in the second half. Substitutes Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli helped the team win and stay top of the group with five wins from five games.
Arsenal allowed Bayern to keep the ball early in the match. But they scored first when Jurrien Timber headed in Bukayo Saka’s corner. Bayern later equalised with a very good team move. Joshua Kimmich played a long ball across the field, and it was volleyed to Lennart Karl. The 17-year-old fired the ball past David Raya to make it 1-1.
Saka had a strong shot saved by Manuel Neuer, and he also sent in a good cross that Mikel Merino headed straight at the Bayern goalkeeper. Karl later missed an easy chance in a one-on-one with Raya. Merino also headed another chance wide from Declan Rice’s corner.
In the second half, Arsenal were much better. Madueke scored after a great cross from Riccardo Calafiori. Later, Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer rushed out of his goal and made a mistake. Martinelli went around him and scored into an empty net to make it 3-1. This was Bayern’s first loss of the season in all competitions.
Arsenal continue to be very strong with set pieces. They have now scored 10 goals from corners this season, the most in Europe’s top five leagues.
Madueke’s goal was his first for Arsenal and stopped his run of 17 games without scoring. Martinelli has now scored in all four of his Champions League games this season, his best record in one campaign.
Karl, even though on the losing side, is a rising star. He is the second-youngest player ever to score in back-to-back Champions League matches (17 years, 277 days). Only Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal was younger.
Neuer, now 39, is near the end of his career. He has made 10 Opta-defined errors leading to goals in Champions League matches for Bayern, and four of those errors were against Arsenal.
