Business Mogul Elon Musk challenges Wikipedia as his version Grokipedia launched
Elon Musk launched his version of Wikipedia known as Grokipedia.
The Cable News Network (CNN) reports that the goal of the world’s richest man through this platform is to create an alternative information and media ecosystem moulded to his views.
The articles fed on this platform are said to be developed by Musk’s Grok AI and the site mimics Wikipedia’s minimalistic style, page structure and reference style. Grokipedia still pales in comparison to Wikipedia, as it still has 800,000 articles while Wikipedia sits at more than 7 million articles. The openness of the newly formed platform is still unclear as compared to Wikipedia where anyone can publish an article.
Speaking on his new creation, Musk said, “The goal of Grok and Grokipedia.com is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. We will not be perfect, nonetheless, we will strive towards that goal,” he concluded.
Users have already come out to discuss the differences between the two platforms. The business man himself as a subject on the two platforms appears very differently. Wikipedia describes Musk as a ‘popularized figure’ who has been criticized for making unscientific and misleading statements, including COVID-19 misinformation and promoting conspiracy theories, affirming antisemitic, racist and transphobic comments.
Grokipedia’s version describes Musk as having influenced broader debates on technological progress, demographic decline and institutional biases. It mentions that after purchasing Twitter, he has ‘prioritized’ content moderation reforms amid criticism from legacy media outlets that exhibit systematic left-leaning tilts in coverage.
