Crew Member Dies in Cruise Ship Blaze Near Singapore, Passengers Safe

A devastating fire aboard the World Legacy cruise ship, registered in Liberia, resulted in the death of one crew member early on February 20, 2026.

According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the fire broke out at approximately 4:00 a.m. while the vessel was en route to Singapore. Fortunately, no passengers were injured, and the 224 passengers aboard, including 185 from Singapore, were safely accounted for.

The blaze was brought under control shortly after it began, with emergency teams, including MPA patrol crafts, the Police Coast Guard, and the Singapore Civil Defence Force’s Marine Division, swiftly responding to the incident. The ship is now anchored at the Raffles Reserved Anchorage, located between Pulau Senang and Pulau Semakau, while investigations are underway.

The World Legacy was carrying crew members, none of whom were Singaporean nationals. Although the fire resulted in the unfortunate loss of one crew member, authorities have confirmed that the remaining crew and passengers were unharmed.

Dragon Cruises, the Singapore-based agency managing local business for World Cruises, assured the public that passenger and crew safety remains a top priority. "We are cooperating fully with the authorities," a spokesperson from the company said.

The World Legacy cruise ship is part of the World Cruises fleet, offering flexible packages that include short cruises and extended stays. The ship had been scheduled to arrive at Singapore's HarbourFront on February 20 at 7:00 a.m. and was expected to depart at 9 a.m. However, the itinerary has since been adjusted due to the incident.

The MPA has pledged to provide further updates as more information becomes available. In the meantime, authorities continue their efforts to investigate the cause of the fire.
