Did Lainey Wilson copy Beyoncé Style?
Lainey Wilson is being accused by Netflix fans of copying Beyoncé 2024 NFL halftime show, saying her outfit and carriage almost look too similar to Beyoncé style.
Christmas was a bliss as Snoop Dogg’s Holiday Halftime Party took place at the Bank Stadium, Minneapolis. The Rap Legend performed his most memorable tracks “Nuthin’ but a G Thang,”, Who I Am (What’s My Name)? and “Drop it Like it’s Hot’ together with a 30-person choir, drummer and a special team of dancers. It was a night full of Christmas cheers, ballerinas and great music.
The halftime show was a win for musical lovers as it ranged from not only Hip-Hop but also K-pop and Country too. HUNTR/X of “Kpop Demon Hunters” performed ‘12 Days of Christmas’ with a hint of their hit single ‘Golden’ from the animation movie which got the audience gagging. Andrea and Matteo Bocelli brought their own opera style to the halftime show as they sang ‘White Christmas’ joined by their entire crew.
Another surprise that really set the internet, particularly TikTok, on fire was Lainey Wilson’s performance, in particular her outfit and entrance to the field as she performed ‘Santa Claus is Comin' to Town’. As she sang her heart out, fans pointed out some rather coincidental similarities to a previous Christmas Halftime show performed by Beyoncé in Houston, Texas.
The Beyoncé Bowl took place last Christmas as Beyoncé performed songs from her album Cowboy Carter. Adorned in white, she was dressed in a white bodysuit and white glittery chaps. The outfit was completed off by a wide cowboy hat and was perfect for the Christmas performance. Her performance later won her an Emmy for Outstanding Costumes for Variety, Nonfiction, or Reality Programming.
Wilson wore an all-white ensemble also topped off with a cowboy hat. Her outfit also had silver jewellery on it, just like Beyoncé’s, which caught the attention of many.
Lainey Wilson is a fan of Beyoncé and was among the first artists to welcome her into the country space. It feels more so of inspiration rather than copying from one star to another. But fans are also leaning more to the latter as Lainey entered the arena in a white carriage, while Beyoncé did it in a white horse. Is it possible that inspiration may have crossed a few lines?
Beyoncé being copied is nothing new under the sun, as Shakira also did the same for her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour. She had a large metallic wolf prop (similar to Beyoncé's horse), silver/chrome aesthetics in costumes and staging (including large silver lettering for tour titles), and a general "copy/paste" vibe, stemming from Shakira admitting to taking notes at a Renaissance show, leading to accusations of plagiarism rather than just inspiration. You would have guessed it was the second edition of Beyoncé’s Renaissance Era.
Shakira's creative director was called out as the BeyHive questioned why there were no new creative ideas for Shakira’s tour as referencing hers to Beyonce’s overshadows her success, style and vibe.
