A fire on the landside of Cape Town International Airport temporarily halted international departures and delayed domestic flights on Tuesday. Authorities confirmed the blaze was extinguished and no injuries were reported.
A fire at Cape Town International Airport on Tuesday caused temporary disruption to both international and domestic flights, airport authorities have confirmed.
According to Reuters, international departures were briefly suspended as a precaution, while some incoming international flights were diverted. Several domestic flights were also delayed as airlines informed passengers of changes to their schedules.
The airport’s operator, Airports Company South Africa, said the fire broke out on the landside of the airport. The company confirmed that the blaze was successfully extinguished and that all passengers, staff and visitors were safe.
ACSA further stated that the fire affected network and IT systems, including airport Wi-Fi and other essential services, which contributed to the disruption of operations.
Cape Town International Airport is South Africa’s second-busiest airport and a key gateway for tourists visiting the coastal city. Authorities had not yet disclosed the cause of the fire at the time of reporting.
