Man Arrested for Allegedly Hacking Server, Leaking Unreleased Film Online

A 26-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly gaining illegal access to a media content server and leaking portions of an unreleased animated film online.

According to The Straits Times, the suspect is believed to have remotely accessed the server without authorisation, downloaded the film, and later shared parts of it on social media platforms. The incident came to light after authorities received a report on April 16 regarding the circulation of the unreleased content online.

Police moved quickly and identified the suspect within a day of the report, leading to his arrest. Several electronic devices were seized during the operation, and investigators reportedly recovered a copy of the film from the man’s possession.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the breach involved unauthorised remote access to secure computer systems, raising concerns about digital security in the media industry. According to The Straits Times, the suspect is currently under investigation for unauthorised access to computer material. If found guilty, he could face a jail term of up to seven years, a fine of up to $50,000, or both under Singaporean law.

The case highlights growing risks of cybercrime and digital piracy, particularly involving unreleased entertainment content, which can result in significant financial and reputational losses for production companies.
