Man United Manager Chaos: Carrick Link Exposes Old Problems After Amorim Sacking

Manchester United’s search for a caretaker manager has reopened old wounds. With Michael Carrick now favourite and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also in talks, critics say the club is recycling familiar faces instead of fixing deeper problems after sacking Ruben Amorim.

Man United Manager Chaos: Carrick Link Exposes Old Problems After Amorim Sacking

Manchester United’s latest managerial situation feels less like a plan and more like a loop they cannot escape.

After sacking Ruben Amorim just 14 months into his reign, United are now strongly linked with Michael Carrick as caretaker, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has also held talks about a possible return. For many observers, this has raised serious questions about what the club’s owners have achieved in the last two and a half years.

There is a growing feeling that appointing Carrick would be a move aimed at pleasing fans rather than making the right football decision. Carrick is respected as a former player, but his recent record does little to inspire confidence. He was dismissed by Middlesbrough after failing to take them forward, and critics argue that managing a Championship side is a world away from handling the pressure and scale of Manchester United.

Some believe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would at least be the safer option. He knows the club, has managed at the highest level, and steadied United before. But even that option feels like a step backwards rather than progress.

The bigger question remains: why sack Amorim at all? If the club were not ready with a clear upgrade, many feel it would have made more sense to keep him until the end of the season and plan properly. Instead, United now look reactive, relying once again on familiar faces and “United DNA” instead of a long-term vision.

Reports described as coming from sources close to the process have only added to the frustration. This is not wild gossip, but information echoed across multiple outlets, making the situation feel even more chaotic.

For a club of United’s size, this constant recycling suggests deeper issues. Until those are fixed, changing the manager may change very little.
