McGregor’s Court Drama Clears, But Questions Remain Over His Future

The sexual assault lawsuit against Conor McGregor in the United States has been dropped, but the UFC star continues to face a cloud of controversy as he looks toward a possible return to the octagon in 2026.

McGregor’s Court Drama Clears, But Questions Remain Over His Future

Conor McGregor has won many battles in the cage, but his life outside fighting continues to make headlines. A woman who accused the Irish fighter of sexually assaulting her at an NBA basketball game in 2023 has now dropped her lawsuit in the United States.

The woman, identified only as a 49-year-old Wall Street executive, had taken the case to a Florida court. This week, her lawyers filed papers to officially withdraw the case. McGregor, now 37, had always denied the accusation. Earlier, prosecutors had already decided not to press criminal charges against him over the same incident.

The alleged event was said to have happened during the NBA Finals in June 2023, when McGregor attended Game 4 between the Miami Heat and the Denver Nuggets. He was there as part of a promotional deal for a pain relief spray. According to the original complaint, the woman met McGregor in a VIP area before being taken to a restroom, where she claimed the assault took place.

Although the American case is now closed, McGregor’s legal problems are not completely behind him. In a separate case in Ireland last year, he was found liable in a sexual assault claim and ordered to pay about 250,000 dollars in damages.

McGregor has also recently faced punishment in sport. Last month, he received an 18-month suspension for missing three drug tests in a year. However, because the ban was backdated to September 2024, he could return to fighting by March next year.

This timing may allow him to compete at a special UFC event planned for 14 June at the White House, linked to US President Donald Trump’s birthday. For now, the former champion’s career path remains uncertain, but the spotlight has not moved away.
