A father and his son are recovering in hospital after a brutal stabbing incident linked to a neighbourhood dispute in Sydney’s south-west, Australian authorities have confirmed.

According to reports by 9News Australia, the attack occurred in the suburb of Girraween on Tuesday afternoon when an argument between men who are believed to know each other escalated into violence. The confrontation reportedly involved three individuals aged 30, 37 and 56.

Police allege that a 37-year-old man armed with a knife stabbed both victims multiple times during the altercation. The injured victims, identified as a 56-year-old father and his 37-year-old son, sustained serious wounds to their upper bodies and were rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.

Footage from the scene, cited by 9News Australia, shows the suspected attacker approaching a residence before being confronted by one of the occupants wielding a chair in an attempt to defend himself. The situation quickly spiralled into a physical fight that moved from the house into the backyard, where the stabbing reportedly took place.

Both victims underwent surgery and were later seen embracing while recovering, an emotional moment highlighting their survival after the life-threatening incident.

The suspect was also injured during the confrontation and was initially taken to the hospital under police guard. He has since been discharged and formally charged with two counts of attempted murder, as reported by 9News Australia. Authorities confirmed that he was denied bail and is expected to appear before the Parramatta Local Court.

Witnesses described a chaotic and frightening scene, with one neighbour telling 9News Australia that children ran out of the house calling for help while one of the victims lay injured, claiming he had been stabbed.
