Oscars Security Clash: Academy Upset After Teyana Taylor Says She Was Shoved
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences condemned the actions of an outside security firm after nominee Teyana Taylor alleged she was shoved by a guard at the Oscars.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has issued a sharp rebuke to an outside security firm after actress and Oscar nominee Teyana Taylor alleged she was physically shoved by a guard during Sunday’s ceremony. In a statement released Tuesday, the organization said it was “extremely upset” over the incident and made clear to the vendor that “this behavior is not acceptable.”
The episode unfolded inside the Dolby Theatre and was partially captured on video by a bystander. In the footage, Taylor is heard repeatedly calling a man off camera “rude” for having put his hands on her. “He literally shoved me,” she tells another woman. The circumstances leading to the confrontation remain unclear, but Taylor later told TMZ that while attendees were having a good time, “security was just doing a lot.” She added, “At the end of the day, I just don’t tolerate disrespect, especially when it’s unwarranted and it’s unprovoked.”
Taylor was at the Oscars as a first-time nominee, recognized for her supporting role in One Battle After Another. Although she lost the award to Amy Madigan for Weapons, her presence at the ceremony marked a career milestone. The incident, however, cast a shadow over what should have been a celebratory evening.
The security firm involved, System Industry Specialists Inc., was contracted by the Academy to provide security services for the event. In a joint statement released through the Academy, the company acknowledged that a member of its team had a “brief interaction” with Taylor. “During that interaction, there was incidental contact, and we regret that the situation escalated,” the statement read. The company conceded that the incident did not meet the standard of professionalism it expects and said it had “addressed the matter internally to help ensure situations like this do not happen again.”
Taylor responded to the Academy’s statement on social media, thanking the organization for its “unwavering love & support.” The Academy’s swift condemnation of the security firm reflects the heightened sensitivity around guest treatment at high-profile events, particularly following years of industry-wide conversations about safety and respect.
