Six Killed in Kenya Helicopter Crash, MP Among Victims

Six people, among them a Kenyan Member of Parliament, died on Saturday after a helicopter crashed in Nandi County in the North Rift region of Kenya.

According to Reuters, the aircraft went down in the Mosop area, killing all those on board. The cause of the crash was not immediately known.

County Police Commander Samuel Mukusi told Citizen TV that the victims included the pilot, the MP and four other passengers. Authorities confirmed that no one survived the accident.

President William Ruto identified the deceased lawmaker as Johana Ng'eno, who represented Emurua Dikirr constituency. In a statement posted on his official X account, Ruto expressed condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Emurua Dikirr following what he described as a tragic incident.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his friends, the people of Emurua Dikirr, and all the victims and families affected by the helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County,” the President said, as reported by Reuters.

The identities of the other passengers had not been released by the time of publication.

Air accidents involving light aircraft and helicopters occasionally occur in Kenya’s rural regions, often prompting investigations by aviation authorities to determine technical or weather-related causes. Officials indicated that a formal inquiry would be conducted to establish what led to Saturday’s crash. More details are expected as investigations continue.
