A 25-year-old man has been charged with murder after his 47-year-old mother was fatally stabbed at their home in Windale, in the Lake Macquarie area of New South Wales, Australia.

According to 9News, the incident occurred at around 8pm on Saturday when the accused, identified as Blaise McIntyre, allegedly attacked his mother, Rebecca McIntyre, inside their residence. Emergency services were called to the scene, but paramedics were unable to save her life.

Police confirmed that the suspect had no prior history of violence and was not previously known to law enforcement for domestic-related incidents, as reported by 9News. Authorities have since launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the alleged attack.

New South Wales Police Superintendent Tracy Chapman said a knife believed to have been used in the incident was recovered from the home. The accused was later taken to hospital under police guard before being formally charged with domestic violence-related murder, according to 9News.In a further development, police allege that it was the suspect himself who contacted emergency services immediately after the incident, requesting assistance.
