Spanish Singer Julio Iglesias Denies Sexual Abuse Claims From Two Former Employees
Spanish music star Julio Iglesias has strongly denied allegations of sexual abuse made by two former female employees, calling the claims “absolutely false” and expressing sadness over the situation in a public statement.
The accusations emerged after a three-year investigation by Spanish news outlet elDiario.es and Univision Noticias, published earlier this week. The two women, identified only by the aliases Rebeca and Laura to protect their identities, allege that, while working for Iglesias at his Caribbean residences in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas in 2021, they were subjected to inappropriate touching, insults and humiliation in “an atmosphere of control and constant harassment.”
According to the published reports, the environment was tightly controlled, with staff subject to strict rules and limited freedoms. Rebeca, a domestic worker, claimed she was repeatedly called into Iglesias’s private quarters and subjected to unwanted physical contact. Laura, who worked as a physiotherapist, alleged that the singer kissed her on the mouth and touched her breasts without consent. Both women described an atmosphere of intimidation and power imbalance that left them feeling humiliated and vulnerable.
In response to the allegations, Iglesias, 82, shared a message on his Instagram account stating: “I deny having abused, coerced or disrespected any woman. These accusations are absolutely false and cause me great sadness.” He added that he has never “abused, coerced or disrespected any woman” and thanked supporters for their messages of support.
The complaint, filed with Spain’s Audiencia Nacional earlier this month, is now under preliminary investigation by prosecutors. Iglesias’s statement firmly rejects the claims as unfounded, and he has vowed to defend his dignity against what he described as malicious accusations.
