Jeeno Thitikul has won the CME Group Tour Championship again. The 22-year-old world number one finished the final day with a score of four-under-par 68. This put her at 26 under for the tournament, four shots ahead of Pajaree Anannarukarn.
The event was played in Florida, and the win gave Thitikul a $4 million prize. She also won the LPGA Player of the Year award and the Vare Trophy for the best scoring average of the season.
This is Thitikul’s second time winning this tournament in a row. She becomes only the second golfer to defend the title, matching Ko Jin-young, who won in 2020 and 2021.
Thitikul said she was happy to be playing because she had worried about her wrist injury last week. She said she loves the golf course and feels good playing the last tournament of the year there.
Thitikul started the final round six shots ahead, but Pajaree made early birdies to cut the lead to two shots. However, Thitikul stayed calm and made an important birdie on the back nine. Pajaree made a bogey on the 12th hole, and Thitikul birdied the 13th to go five shots ahead.
Pajaree made more birdies on holes 16 and 17, but Thitikul sealed the victory with a birdie on the 18th hole.
England’s Lottie Woad and Charley Hull both finished on 11 under par.
