Three Officers Killed as Suicide Bombers Storm Paramilitary Headquarters in Peshawar

Three suicide attackers struck the headquarters of Pakistan’s Federal Constabulary in Peshawar on Monday, killing at least three paramilitary officers and wounding several others, officials and local media report.

According to Reuters, the assailants forced their way into the Frontier Constabulary compound, opening fire before detonating their explosives within the complex.  Javed Iqbal, deputy commandant of the force, confirmed the loss of three personnel.

Local police said one bomber blew himself up at the main gate, while the other two were shot by security forces after entering the premises.  Rescue services reported that at least ten people were wounded, including three security staff.

The headquarters lies in a densely populated area of Peshawar, prompting swift action by security forces. The road around the facility was sealed off by the army and police to secure the area, local residents say.

In a statement, police said all three attackers are believed to have died in the exchange, one in the blast and two in a firefight.  The injured were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital, whose spokesman confirmed the treatment of both paramilitary and civilian casualties.

Political leaders voiced condemnation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the rapid response of security forces, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi expressed solidarity with the fallen officers.  The provincial assembly also extended condolences.

No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has been linked with similar strikes.  Tensions have risen in the region following reported cross-border militant activity and recent clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan, intensifying fears of militant resurgence.

Security services have launched an investigation. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Counter-Terrorism Department is coordinating with local police to determine how the attackers breached the compound and whether there are broader links to regional insurgent networks.

For the people of Peshawar, Monday’s attack is a grim reminder of the volatile security climate. Many in the surrounding community say they live in constant fear, even as they praise the bravery of security personnel who prevented what could have been a much more devastating strike.
