TikTok US Sale Finally Concludes After Yearlong Battle, New Leadership Takes Helm

After more than a year of political and legal wrangling, TikTok’s U.S. business has officially changed hands, concluding a prolonged effort to secure the popular video-sharing platform’s future in the United States. The joint venture acquiring TikTok’s U.S. assets has formally closed, the company confirmed Thursday, and a new leadership team has been installed just ahead of a deadline set by President Donald Trump.

The new entity, TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC, will assume control of TikTok’s U.S. operations and oversee data, content, algorithms, and software security under a majority-American ownership structure. In a statement cited by CNN, the venture said it “will operate under defined safeguards that protect national security through comprehensive data protections, algorithm security, content moderation, and software assurances for U.S. users.”

TikTok said the agreement allows more than 200 million American users to continue using the app with minimal visible change, although the recommendation algorithm may be retrained under U.S. oversight to reflect locally stored user data. U.S. user data will be housed domestically under secure conditions, with content moderation and cybersecurity overseen by the new joint venture.

The leadership team is led by CEO Adam Presser, previously head of U.S. data security efforts for TikTok, with Chief Security Officer Will Farrell heading privacy and security. A seven-member board includes TikTok’s global CEO, Shou Zi Chew, and representatives from major investors.

In a social media post, President Donald Trump lauded the deal, calling it a victory and crediting cooperation from China in enabling the transfer of control.

The transfer marks the end of an extended saga that saw bipartisan congressional pressure, Supreme Court rulings, temporary service outages, and intense scrutiny over national security risks tied to ByteDance’s ownership. The new agreement frames the transition as a resolution prioritizing U.S. data protection and algorithm oversight while keeping the platform in the American tech ecosystem.
