Trump Threatens to Sue Trevor Noah Over Grammy Joke, Blasts Awards Show
President Donald Trump launched a scathing online attack against the 2026 Grammy Awards and its host, Trevor Noah, threatening a defamation lawsuit over a joke that referenced Trumps past association with Jeffrey Epstein.
In a series of posts on Truth Social in the early hours of Monday morning, Trump declared the Grammy telecast "the WORST, virtually unwatchable!" and took specific aim at host Trevor Noah. The threat of legal action stemmed from a joke Noah delivered near the ceremony's conclusion. After Billie Eilish won Song of the Year, Noah quipped that artists want a Grammy "almost as much as Trump wants Greenland, which makes sense because Epstein’s island is gone, he needs a new one to hang out with Bill Clinton."
The joke referenced the private Caribbean island owned by the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, where his accusers say they were trafficked. Trump, who was a known social acquaintance of Epstein in the early 2000s, vehemently denied the implication in his post. "I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close," he wrote, calling Noah's statement "false and defamatory." He promised to send his lawyers to sue the "poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C."
Trump's ire wasn't reserved for Noah alone. He also criticized the overall broadcast, noting with apparent satisfaction that this was the final Grammys to air on CBS after a long run, saying the network was "lucky not to have this garbage litter their airwaves any longer." The ceremony featured multiple artists, including Bad Bunny and Billie Eilish, making pointed statements against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions, adding to its politically charged atmosphere.
Representatives for the Recording Academy and Trevor Noah did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the former president's threats and criticisms. The incident underscores the continued blending of entertainment, politics, and personal grievance that has characterized Trump's public life.
