Why Thomas Frank’s Spurs Can’t Turn Home Games Into Wins

Tottenham Hotspur continue to struggle at home under Thomas Frank, winning only one league match at their stadium this season despite having one of the best away records. Former Spurs players Danny Murphy and Michael Carrick say the problems come from low creativity, lack of confidence, and injuries to key attackers.

Why Thomas Frank’s Spurs Can’t Turn Home Games Into Wins

Thomas Frank’s time at Tottenham started with promise, but the pressure of managing Spurs is showing quickly. Their heavy 4-1 defeat to Arsenal highlighted just how far they still need to go, and the loss means they have only one win in their past five league matches. Even though their attack looked better in the midweek Champions League meeting with Paris St-Germain, they still conceded five goals in a 5-3 defeat.

A normal team would look forward to returning home after two tough away games, but Tottenham’s stadium has brought no comfort. They have the joint-best away record in the league, yet their only home league win came against Burnley on the opening weekend. Their performances in front of their home fans have lacked goals, creativity, and energy. This poor run extends beyond this season, with only three home league wins in the last 12 months.

Danny Murphy told BBC Sport that he felt Spurs were struggling at home because their midfield lacked creativity and their front line lacked confidence. He believed Spurs looked safer and more comfortable away from home because they could play with less pressure and rely more on counter-attacks and set-pieces.

Michael Carrick added that home supporters expect a more attacking style, which increases the pressure. He also pointed out that injuries to Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, and Dominic Solanke have made Spurs far less dangerous in attack, even though the midfield group still has quality.
